Abstract

For several years, Europe has become a “promised land” for refugees seeking to shelter themselves
from the dangers of military conflicts and social unrest. This group included also children and
adolescents without adult care. The situation they experience — lack of care, lack of livelihood,
poor sanitary and living conditions, trauma, illness — make a risk of depravation and social
exclusion. This problem was highlighted by the European Commission, what became a basis
for the announcement in 2010 of the five-year Stockholm Program, which one of priority
was a protection of minors. In the same year, the European Commission adopted an Action
Plan on Unaccompanied Minors for the years 2010–2014. Text is an attempt to focus one to
the situation of refugee and immigrant children especially in education, important from the
perspective of their individual development and social functioning.
